[ Well the question is, is it something he wants? He hasn't thought about it and he doesn't want to think too hard about it. Subconsciously, he knows it's a kettle of fish. If he starts wanting things from her, wouldn't that seem insincere of him? If he starts hoping that maybe one day she'll call him cute, isn't that unfair to her?

Wouldn't that just be setting himself up for disappointment, because he knows that's not happening, anyway?

Besides, he can't imagine himself as being someone she'd call "cute", so that was getting ahead of himself. ]
